Liverpool stumbles in FA Cup. Oh no...

Liverpool losed 0-1 to rivals Everton in a Merseyside derby. Dan Gosling scored with 2 minutes left in extra time, putting Everton into the 5th round of the FA Cup. Everton will host Aston Villa who advanced into the 5th round after a 3-1 victory over Doncaster.

With a penalty-kick shootout looming to separate the cross-city rivals in their replay, the 19-year-old Gosling put in a deflected chip from Andy van der Meyde’s cross.

Liverpool was reduced to 10 men with 14 minutes remaining in regulation when Lucas Leiva was shown a second yellow card for tripping Joleon Lescott. Aargh~

“We are really disappointed, to play for a long time with 10 men and to concede like that from a deflection at the end, you have to be disappointed,” Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez said. “The turning point of the game was the second yellow card for Lucas, I was not happy, but I do not want to say anything about the referee.”

There were graver news for the unfortunate Liverpool. Liverpool’s chances were damaged after 15 minutes when captain Steven Gerrard limped off with a suspected hamstring injury. The England midfielder will have a scan Thursday to see the extent of the injury.

I felt that it is hard for Liverpool after Gerrard's injury and Lucas' red card (though he deserved it) to win. Well, Lucas seems to be doing more harm than good recently. Benitez should consider putting him on the bench for the next match, seriously.

But never mind, you'll never walk alone, Reds!

There are some websites about football which I think that are good through some researching. They are :

And about Liverpool :

Happy surfing!

On leave!

No major matches for today. On leave! ;-P

Anyway, I will not be enjoying myself during this short break. My class tests are just around the corner - it will be starting next Tuesday (10th February) and I need to revise for my test. I have set my MSG (mean subject grade) target as 1.50. This means I have to strive hard, especially English, in order to achieve my goal.

Therefore, I may be taking some few days' break evey now and then during these three dreaded weeks. After that, I will be posting posts almost every day as usual.

See you!

Keane rejoins Tottenham Hotspurs

Robbie Keane, 28, who cost Liverpool £19 million pounds last July, will partner again with former team-mate Jermain Defoe who has also returned to the struggling London club from Portsmouth.

"We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement for the transfer of Robbie Keane back to the club from Liverpool," a statement on Tottenham's website said. "Personal terms have been agreed and a medical completed.

The transfer fee was undisclosed. With French defender Pascal Chimbonda also signing for Tottenham from Sunderland, Tottenham have bought back a total of three players sold when previous manager Juande Ramos was in charge at White Hart Lane.

Keane made 28 appearances for Liverpool, but only scoring 7 goals and struggled to hold down a regular place in Rafael Benitez's starting side. He admitted on Monday his "lifelong dream" of playing for Liverpool had not worked out.

"It was a difficult decision to make to leave Tottenham in the summer," Keane stated. "It proved not to be the right move for me.

"I know some Spurs fans will feel I let them down by leaving but I can assure them I shall be giving my all for this club (which) has terrific fans and I want to repay them for all their support. We've got to get on and fight our way up that league table."

It is a surprising U-turn for Keane and another twist in the career of the 28-year-old who began at Wolverhampton Wanderers and had spells with Coventry City, Inter Milan and Leeds United before joining Tottenham in August, 2002.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy said: "We never wanted Robbie to leave in the summer, we acknowledged the six years dedicated service he gave this club and reluctantly let him go. I am delighted that he has chosen to return to us."

Keane, Ireland's record scorer, became a firm favourite with Tottenham fans, netting 107 goals in 254 games in his first spell there. He struck up a lethal partnership with Bulgarian Dimitar Berbatov who was sold to Manchester United in August.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp, who replaced Ramos in October after a terrible start to the season, will hope the return of Keane, often the captain at Tottenham, can help lift them away from the relegation zone.

Roman Pavlyuchenko and Darren Bent have failed to fill the void left by the sales of Berbatov and Keane this season having scored only 11 goals in 12 home league matches. They are 14th in the table but only just two points above bottom club West Brom.
"Sometimes good players cannot settle down in the team and when this happens you have to consider the situation and try to react quickly," said Liverpool manager Benitez.

"If it is not good for the team then it is better for everyone to make a decision and because of the situation in the transfer market and for the opportunity for the player we had to do it now.

"I have to analyse things and try to look at the bigger picture and this means thinking of the club and the team and what is best for them."

Benitez believes he has enough quality to cope without Keane as the Reds look to keep their title bid on track.

"We still have Ryan Babel, David Ngog and Dirk Kuyt as well as Torres," added the Reds boss. "It is a risk but the situation was not good and we needed to do something.

"Now I would like to wish Robbie the best because although things did not work out he has been working hard for us.

"He was trying to do his best and the key was that Spurs showed a lot of interest and they were pushing really hard for him.

"The player needed to play and he was not doing that as much as he would have liked with us.
"But I cannot criticise him in any way because, as I have said, he tried to do his best for us."
Keane has reiterated his relief at completing a move back to White Hart Lane after akwardly scoring only five goals in half a season at Liverpool.

"I'm delighted to be back at a club I have very strong feelings from having previously spent six wonderful years here," he said.

"Coming back to Spurs was an easy decision to make because this is my home. Firstly in respect of the Club - but also my house is in the area and everything is set up for me to walk right back into.

"It's funny how football works sometimes and situations turn around very quickly, but I can assure fans I will be giving my all to make sure this club stays in the Premier League.

"It would have been difficult for me to have gone anywhere else while a club I have such strong feelings for has this fight on its hands.

"It was a difficult time for me at Liverpool, but there's no point in dwelling on it."

Last hours' transfers!

Liverpool's transfers :
In (signed) : None
In (rumours) : Darijo Srna (Shakhtar Donetsk); Javier Saviola (Real Madrid)
Out (signed): Jermaine Pennant (Portsmouth, loan); Robbie Keane (Tottenham)
Out (rumours) : None

The Gunners have agreed both a fee with Zenit and personal terms with Arshavin; a roving TV reporter has his moment of glory spoiled as two kids chuck snow at each other immediately behind him.

16:00 - With an hour left until the transfer window closes, Liverpool confirm they have agreed an undisclosed fee with Tottenham for Robbie Keane. Keane and Defoe could be a useful partnership in addition to Palvyuchenko and Bent for Tottenham who is in danger of regelation.

15:50 - DONE DEAL!! Charlie Insomnia completes his move to Wigan in exchange for Taylor and cash. Joe Kinnear won't be losing any sleep over that deal.

15:40 - The word on the rumour mill is that Fulham have signed former Leeds man Olivier Dacourt on loan from Internazionale for the rest of the season. The Frenchman will be allocated Jimmy Bullard's locker.

15:35 - DEAL OFF! Giovani has been found to be so lacking in fitness during his medical at Fratton Park that Portsmouth have pulled the plug on their deal for the young Mexican. He returns, shame-faced, to Tottenham.

15:30 - Whelan also says there is "a lot of interest" in Luis Valencia and sounds less than confident about his chances of keeping the Ecuador winger in the summer.

15:25 - Wigan chairman Dave Whelan confirms N'Zogbia is just finishing his medical at the club, and Ryan Taylor will leave the JJB for Newcastle in a part-exchange deal.

15:25 -DONE DEAL!!Scunthorpe swoop to sign Arsenal midfielder Henri Lansbury on an initial one-month loan deal.

15:20 - Milan want to keep David Beckham. Again. Anything will be sorted by the end of the day, however.

15:15 - DONE DEAL!! With less than two hours of the window left, Fulham agree a deal to keep Coventry winger Julian Gray until the end of the season.

15:00 - Sunderland are giving a medical to West Ham defender Calum Davenport.

14:30 - DEADLINE EXTENDED - The transfer window has indeed been extended past five o'clock, but only for those transfers which have been hindered by the weather - this must be proven.

14:25 - Roque Santa Cruz will be staying at Blackburn, according to reports. It is too little, too late on City's part - Rovers wanted to replace him and now will have no time to do so.

14:20 - DONE DEAL!! Everton sign Manchester City striker Jo on loan for the remainder of the season - a bit of a scoop as City paid £18m for him in the summer.
14:10 - DONE DEAL!! Henri Camara finalises a loan move to Stoke from Wigan until the end of the current campaign. That is only the second completed deal with a Premier League club as the recipients of a player.

13:15 - Giovani dos Santos seems set to quit Tottenham after they received two bids for the former Barca winger. One of the interested parties is said to be Pompey again... Tony Adams on a mission to rebuild, it seems.
12:55 - DONE DEAL!! Hereford sign Hungarian goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi on loan from Liverpool. Well, I haven't even seen his face before...

12:50 - Inter overlord Mourinho is said to be willing to take David Bentley or Jermaine Jenas to the Giuseppe Meazza in exchange for Quaresma. Bentley could make sense...
1
2:40 - Charles N'Zogbia is having a medical at Wigan - is that his dream move? It is quite doubtful, taking nothing away from the achievements of Steve Bruce's side this season.

12:10 - Sunderland striker Djibril Cisse - on loan from Olimpique Marseille - quashes reports that he wants out sooner than the summer. And why would he after his feelgood goal in the derby clash yesterday?

11:50 - Manchester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, who spent time at Cardiff and Coventry last season, wants a move away from Eastlands following the arrival of Shay Given at the weekend.
10:45 -Milan have included David Beckham in their squad list for the UEFA Cup - does that mean he will sign permanently from LA Galaxy? It certainly doesn't dampen those rumours...

10:35 - The Keane transfer, if it goes through, could mean that former Barcelona striker Javier Saviola - now warming the bench at Real Madrid - will be heading to Liverpool instead of Spurs...
No way!

10:15 - Le Parisien reckons Bolton want to do a deal with Lyon for target man Fred, with 4.5m in readies mentioned.

10:10 - Stoke boss Tony Pulis is desperate to add more faces to his squad after the arrivals of Matthew Etherington and James Beattie. Guirane N'Daw and Gary O'Neil have been linked with the Potters in the last few weeks.

09:55 - Sporting Lisbon say that Bolton's move for Miguel Veloso is over - due to discrepancies in the preferred method of payment.

09:50 -Newcastle are in for Coventry left-back Daniel Fox, tabling a £1.15 million bid. The ex-Walsall man is an England Under-21 international player.

09:40 - Ricardo Quaresma, out of favour under Jose Mourinho at Inter Milan and left out of Champions League squad list, fuelling the speculation to move to Tottenham.
09:35 -Everton could be in for Rennes striker Asamoah Gyan, with Lukas Jutkiewick a possible makeweight from the Toffees side of things...
09:25 -Fulham are thought to have lodged a bid with Almeria for highly-rated Spanish forward Alvaro Negredo, who has been in good form with 10 goals in 19 Liga games.

Keane's future undecided

LIVERPOOL, England - Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez remained coy about the future of Robbie Keane after the striker was left out of his side's crucial 2-0 victory over Chelsea.

Although Benitez said that he believes Keane will still be at Anfield after Monday's transfer deadline, there were suggestions on Sunday that the Republic of Ireland international is on the verge of returning to his former club Tottenham in a 15 million-pounds deal.

Keane, who only joined Liverpool in pre-season, was forced to watch from the main stand as Fernando Torres struck twice in the dying moments to reduce Manchester United's lead at the top of the Premier League table to two points and keep Liverpool's title hopes alive.

Even if Keane doesn't leave on Monday, his long-term future must be in doubt but the Liverpool manager appeared irritated having to answer questions about the former Leeds star's future after Sunday's win.

"I think so," Benitez said unconvincingly when asked whether Keane would still be at the club after the transfer deadline had passed.

Pressed for an explanation as to why he left Keane out of his plans for Chelsea, Benitez said: "You have to decide on all the players you have.

"We have some good players and we were thinking about the best way of approaching this game. I haven't received any offers (for Keane). Has the club? I don't know.

"I spoke to him before and after the game. He was pleased after because the team had won."
Pressed further about Keane's future, Benitez added: "I will not talk about if, if, if. He's here, he's our player and that's it. I want to enjoy this win. The situation is we have won three points."
Keane has played just six minutes of Liverpool's last three games and has now failed to feature in four of the last seven outings.

He has not completed a full 90 minutes for the club since the 3-1 Champions League victory in Holland against PSV Eindhoven on December 12.

Keane cost 20 million pounds when he moved to Anfield from Tottenham but reports on Sunday suggested that Harry Redknapp is ready to bring him back to White Hart Lane.

According to various sources in the English press, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a £15 million deal that will see Robbie Keane return to White Hart Lane.

The Irish forward arrived at Anfield only six months, but he has failed to make an impact since his £20m dream move to the club he supported as a child.

And now, after being omitted from the Reds’ critical 2-0 victory against Chelsea yesterday, the 28-year-old is expected to rejoin a Spurs side desperate for some attacking options.

The Lilywhites have already re-signed Jermain Defoe, but the England forward will miss the next three weeks through injury. That leaves only Darren Bent and Roman Pavlyuchenko up top, and that partnership hasn’t gelled particularly well.

Thus, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp wants Keane to reclaim the second-striker role and forge an understanding with Pavlyuchenko that could prove as profitable as his much-heralded pairing with Dimitar Berbatov.

No word from either club as yet, though, so it remains to be seen whether the deal has actually been struck

LONDON, England - The Gunners and Zenit St Petersburg have still not agreed a fee for the Russian international but the midfielder has decided to travel to the capital in case that changes.
Arshavin is staying in a hotel in Hertfordshire near to Arsenal's training ground and will travel there for a medical if a late deal is agreed.

The proposed transfer of the playmaker has been one of the most talked about and debated deals of the transfer window with Arsenal said to be unwilling to pay more than £12 million for a player that Zenit originally valued at £20 million.

Last week Arsene Wenger reiterated his desire to sign the Russian but insisted the club would not be held to ransom.

"If we can find an agreement, we will do it, if we cannot we will not overspend what we have planned to do," he said.

Arshavin, who was one of the stars of Euro 2008, has reportedly agreed to repay Zenit half of a £4m signing-on fee to leave the club, and he is thought to have agreed to a salary cut in order to secure a move to the Emirates.

HOORAY! Liverpool 2 Chelsea 0

LIVERPOOL, England

89' - GOAL FOR LIVERPOOL!! TORRES WITH THE HEADER!! Gerrard exchanged passes with Kuyt and fed Aurelio on the left; his ball was superb to the near post, where the striker headed past Cech brilliantly. It is his first goal at Anfield this season.

90+4' TORRES SCORES A SECOND!! He passes into the open goal after Benayoun skipped away from Cole - who had controlled poorly to gift the chance to the Reds.

Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Chelsea injected a shot of feel-good factor into the Anfield club, which hasn’t had such high hopes for a league championship in years. Super-star striker Torres scored a double just as everyone was thinking that it will be goalless draw. He recieve standing ovation from the crowd when he was subsituted by David N'Gog.

Liverpool is still lagging behind leaders Man Utd 2 points while 10-man Chelsea droppd to the third place after conceding 2 late goals.

Co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gilllett flew from America to watch Sunday's game and are due to hold talks with Benitez about his contract in the next few days.
It doesn't matter who is in the stands, I'm always happy to win," added Benitez. "We remained strong and had more control. We didn't score until the end but we deserved to win."

"It was a long title race before and we were in a very good position. It is a long race now and we are in a better position."

On the other hand, Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari blamed Frank Lampard's red card for contributing towards his side's defeat. The visitors were left to play the final half an hour down to 10 men after controversially being shown a straight red card for a foul on Xabi Alonso.

"The red card changed things one hundred per cent," said Scolari. "I only ask for the referee and the FA to look at the video. If they agree that Lampard did not make a foul for the red card maybe they change it."

Scolari refused to write off his side's title chances, even though Chelsea remain five points behind United having played a game more.

"It's more distant after this result," he added. "It's clear it is not in our hands but we need to play game by game and we'll see what happens."

Liverpool's Spainish Trio Wanted by Atletico Madrid

Athletic Madrid is set to bid for Liverpool Spainish trio Jose Reina, Alvaro Arbeloa, and Xabi Alonso, but is waiting for Rafa Benitez's response, according to a report in AS.

Los Colchoneros have started drawing up up plans for next season's squad and the Anfield trio are the main players that the club believe can bolster their squad. Last summer Atletico coach Javier Aguirre wanted a playmaking midfielder and pinpointed Alonso only for him to appear to be ready to go to Juventus, before the Italian outfit opted to Christian Poulsen instead. Now the Mexican trainer is intent on attracting Alonso to compliment the impressive forward line of Sergio Agüero, Diego Forlan, Mai and Simao. Benitez would probably not want all three of the Spanish players to leave Liverpool if he were to stay but a new manager may allow them to go to raise funds.

That may be the only way that Atletico could prise Reina away as they are desperate to land the son of goalkeeper, Miguel Reina, who played in the 1974 European Cup Final. Arbeloa may prove to be an easier proposition, but even the Spanish international defender is seen as a vital squad member by the Merseyside outfit. One way that the club could be assured to having a chance of signing the trio would be to make Benitez the coach and that could be a realistic proposition towards the end of the season.

Personally, I don't think that Atletico will succeed in signing the trio as they are all key players. Even if they were sold, it would be at a very high price and that is unworthy but the opposite for Liverpool!
